Growing Up in Explosive Homes

Adult’s who grew up in an explosive home - whether marked by by yelling, emotional volatility, or unsafe environments - often carry long-term effects into adulthood. These experiences can disrupt nervous system regulation, emotional development, and interpersonal functioning, The unpredictability of such environments may lead those to suppress their emotions, strive for perfection, or adopt rebellious behaviors as coping mechanisms.

This presentation, done while I was a clinician at Moving Parts Psychotherapy, offered a concise introduction to the concept of household explosiveness, including definitions, psychological impacts, and the various ways it can manifest. The presentation will also explore how individuals can begin to understand their experiences and take meaningful steps towards healing. By increasing awareness and providing psychoeducation, the goals is to foster compassion and insight into how early intervention shape adult behavior - and how change is possible.
